I just wanted to share my latest ridiculous injury with you all. On Saturday I was cleaning the bathroom in preparation for friends to come over on Sunday.I noticed that the drain in the bathtub was draining very slowly , so I thought I would take the opportunity to use a concoction of my own to fix the clog. I grabbed my handy-dandy book: Extraordinary Uses for Ordinary Things, which tells you how to use fun, cheap stuff to fix household problems!
So, I first tried baking soda and white vinegar -it creates this awesome explosion of foam that dissolves drain gunk. But, the drain was still clogged... Next I said "Ok, time to bring out the big guns, Drainy, I'm gonna declog you if it takes all day!" I went downstairs (because our only bathroom is upstairs) and found a container of salt and began boiling a quart of white vinegar. Don't ask me why, but when you shove salt into the drain and chase it with boiling vinegar it'll clear the drain. Once the vinegar was at a rolling boil - none of that sissy simmering stuff, I waited for a full boil!
I then proceeded to march off to the bathroom, armed with a saucepan of boiling vinegar and a carton of salt. Now, get a good mental picture of Lisa, hands full, with two puppies jumping around her feet. Yes, they're cute, but they are also dangerous. And I'm stupid. :)I started scaling the stairs, and began climbing over the puppy gate. Now, one would think that I would use my noggin and think "I'm holding a pan of scalding liquid, maybe I should take down the gate and make sure the dogs are out of the way while walking up these stairs." But no, I decided that I'm indestructible like Claire Bennet on Heroes, which I'd been watching all morning long.
So, as I climb the gate I trip a little with one foot, trip on a dog with the other foot, the gate starts to collapse under my weight, and I drop the pan of boiling vinegar! Half the contents of the pan land on the floor, but the other half landed on my right leg. Ugh!!! I was also wearing close-fitting black pajama pants that, I think, trapped the heat and liquid up against my skin more than it would have with jeans.
Needless to say I spent the rest of the evening in the Emergency Room. I have second-degree scald burns the size of my hand on my knee and shin, and the blisters keep getting bigger and bigger! I'm sure it'll be ok, but the irony of the matter is that vinegar is actually used as a home remedy to treat burns, not create them! I don't think being burnt by vinegar helps it to heal at all... Oh... and the drain wasn't actually clogged. I'd bumped the drain stopper lever and the drain had closed halfway and I hadn't noticed.

| You know how when you haven't blogged or written to someone in a long time, it's too hard to start, so you just don't? That's how I feel about this blog!! :)
Summary of last month and a half: Christmas was great, I saw all of my family and loved every second of being with them! I worked many hours over break in the Mansion, and will probably do the same this summer while I look for a real job - unless the Mansion turns into a "real" job, which it could! (for non-TIU folk, the Mansion is the Administrative part of TIU) Right now I work in Advancement as an assistant to the Gift Receipting Coordinator and anyone else who has projects that need done. It used to be a really boring job, because they only had me doing filing, changing addresses, and updating lists and lists of information... but now it's getting fun, because now there are new girls that can do the "grunt" work (like paper shredding.... shudders...) so I actually spend most of my time processing received gifts and researching donors and perspectives. I don't know, I enjoy it now! It's like working in a bank, only the deposits are for TIU, not the giver. I worked at a bank during High School and loved it too...Maybe after I graduate I'll look for a job at a bank in the area. Anyway, yes, I'm graduating in May. Whenever I tell someone that, they say, "Wow, you're graduating so early! How did you get everything done so fast?" Then I have to explain that four years is the NORMAL amount of time to finish a B.A.! And yes, I'm almost 22, so I'm old enough to graduate from college. I'm at the NORMAL age to graduate. I know I look like one of my husband's Jr. High students, but come on! Jr. Highers don't usually have wrinkles and stinkin' wide hips! Oh well, considering I'm the only one of my music-friends-group to be graduating on time, I guess it's commendable to be out in four. Most of my friends are Music Ed and won't be out in less than 5 years. So, school's started again, along with the Jr. High and Sr. High youth groups at church. And, of course, 24, American Idol, and Lost (in February). My happy, busy little world is settling in for another long semester. This time around, I have 21 credits (yikes!) including my Sr. Honors project and an internship in teaching piano lessons, which should be fun. I don't know where I'll find time to do everything, but who cares - I'm almost done! Maybe next time I write it'll be soon enough that I won't have to play catch-up and I can actually write about something funny or interesting :) | | |
| My new profile picture is a candid shot that someone took of me during band. I should probably be embarassed to be caught with this unmasked boredom on my face, especially since I'm an officer (secretary), but I don't really care. I love the people in band, I love the music, and I can't wait for Spring Break Tour, but rehearsals are the bane of my school existence. This picture basically sums up my Senior year of college. Just sitting down, bored and waiting to play! | | |
